Seeing the business from a different side
Lydia describes moving to the United States and initially helping with hardwood-floor sanding and other construction work. That gave her a view of the work happening inside properties.
In her conversation with Jake, she reflects on moving into the investing side of the business. She says she had followed the program for about a year before joining and was a little over ten months into it at the time of the interview.
Getting comfortable talking about a deal
Speaking with lenders and gap funders was difficult for Lydia at first. She describes having to put herself out there and gradually becoming better at those conversations.
One change she identifies is how she viewed the conversation: she began thinking about presenting an opportunity rather than simply asking someone for money. Jake and Lydia also discuss using her existing audience to connect with potential funding partners.
Several projects at different stages
Lydia reports that she and her team had sold seven houses, had another on the market, and had four renovations underway. She says the projects used other people’s money.
She also says the work had not been easy. Her account connects the activity in her business with the communication skills she had to develop along the way.
